I blog mostly at Washblog, a state-wide progressive community blog that focuses on Washington state issues. I'm also an editor there. I occasionally cross-post at Daily Kos and other blogs. I tend to do more in-depth stories and interviews based on activism I'm involved in and events I've attended.
Professionally, I'm a reference librarian, substituting at various public libraries in the South King County, Washington, area. I was the librarian for Seattle Midwifery School and for a private environmental consulting firm. Before that, I was a paralegal with MFY Legal Services in NYC, representing welfare, Medicaid, and foodstamps clients. I'm originally from NYC and the NJ suburbs.
In early 2004, alarmed by what I was seeing politically, I decided, with my husband's help (it takes a bit of rearranging of priorities and finances) to keep to a minimal work schedule and devote time to political activism. In addition to blogging, I've organized events and gatherings and have done quite a bit of on-the-ground outreach and GOTV (get out the vote) work and am a Precinct Committee Officer (PCO) in the 8th Congressional District in Washington.
I continually waver between staying as a PCO -- and resigning in protest against what I see as the appeasement politics of the Democrats in the national legislature. Here's a picture of Arthur Ruger and me at the Northwest Progressive Conference in Pullman, WA in April 07. Arthur and Lietta Ruger are also contributing editors at Washblog. They were presenting at the conference as representatives of Military Families Speak Out. We're holding up new Washblog business cards.
